The Center for Community Self-Help (Self-Help) is a family of credit unions and one of the nation's leading community development financial institutions (CDFIs). Our lending is aimed at building stronger communities and expanding economic opportunities for all. Self Help began in Durham, NC in 1980. Since then, Self-Help has grown to include a two credit unions, a nonprofit loan fund, and a research and policy group. Since 1980 we provided over $7 billion in financing to small businesses, nonprofits, home buyers, and other organizations across the U.S. Today, we serve 150,000 credit union members through locations in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Florida, California, Chicago, and Milwaukee.
