What Polka Wars makes

Topics indie rock, music, indonesia, bands, musicians

Formed in Jakarta in 2011, Polka Wars is a mainstay in Indonesia's indie rock scene. After winning Converse Rubber Tracks and recording their debut Axis Mundi (2015) in New York, they earned Rolling Stone Indonesia's Song of the Year for "Rangkum". Following their 2019 album Bani Bumi, the band entered an unannounced hiatus due to pandemic disruptions, lineup shifts, and personal setbacks. On August 5, 2026, Polka Wars returned with "Terbentur," marking their revival as a trio featuring Karaeng Adjie (vocals, guitar), Giovanni Rahmadeva (vocals, guitar, drums), and Xandega Tahajuansya (bass). Inspired by Tan Malaka’s philosophy on resilience, the single shifts toward a direct, grounded sound while preserving their signature sonic depth.
