What Love Spirals Downwards makes

Topics dream pop, music production, podcast, chillout, downtempo

Love Spirals Downwards creates a genre-blended sound pulling from dream pop, downtempo, chillout, drum and bass, jazz, and neo-soul. From Ryan Lum's early ’90s work with Suzanne Perry to his current collaborations with Anji Lum, as well as instrumentals and remixes, this multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer has created a diverse body of work that traverses numerous genres—yet always retains its evocative, melancholic atmosphere. The current era leverages modern production techniques unavailable during Lum’s early period working with analog 8-track tape, enabling a more expansive sonic exploration. The channel is a hub for the ongoing evolution, featuring new music releases, lyric videos, and podcasts. It also serves as an archive curated by Anji Lum; through a dedicated effort to digitize the project’s history, we share rare studio demos, live recordings, interviews, and archival imagery, preserving the legacy of Love Spirals Downwards for current and future listeners.
