The word ‘Deewan ديوان’ in Arabic refers to a wide range of meanings; a Deewan can be a place of gathering where members of a family or a tribe gather to discuss important matters. Royal courts throughout the Arab world history are also called Deewan, such as Al-Deewan Almalaki or Deewan Al-Caliph. Poets like Mahmoud Darwish wrote Deewan, which in this context means books of poetry. Deewan also describes a community of knowledge where writers, thinkers, critics, scientists, and artists meet and exchange their knowledge. We opened our doors in 2017, and since then, we have taught students worldwide. Today, Deewan is not only a place to study Arabic but also is home to a multifunctional co-working and event space. In the evenings and weekends, we host various cultural events. In addition, Deewan offers language classes taught by native speakers.
