Beyond Shakespeare

What Beyond Shakespeare makes

Topics theater, english-drama, literature, historical-plays, performance

Exploring the birth of English drama - from the earliest fragments, to the closure of the theatres in 1642. Except for stuff written by that other bloke. He's been done. We have an ongoing process of working towards fuller performance of plays and associated literature. We start with a First Look, a slow paced read through - stopping to discuss; a Second Look, where we run at pace; then workshops, runs at an edited or adaptive text; and then full productions of the plays. And then we do it all over again, and keep doing it, sharing everything we sensibly can online, so that others can learn from our mistakes, and occasional successes. These video sessions are open to anyone to join - go to our website and sign up to our weekly (almost daily) zoom sessions.
